Dragonfly with Fan etc;

* Golden Flangetail  my husband took  pictures*

After finishing an errand on his way home without me, my husband found several Golden Flangtails and took some pictures for me. He boasted about how far they were and pictures came out well :-)  It was drizzling at times on that day.
 In English "flange" is used; Japanese name "ウチワヤンマ" is the combination of the two words of  "fan aeschnidae".  Interesting to find the different ways of finding the part of the tail in two languages

They were on the tip of the tree branches. He said he knew where to search p:-)  

As you might notice, picture above is the one on the left.

Another one was high up on the tree.

Sorry for the blurry pictures he took to prove about the distance.

And I hope you can see the fence behind the tree.

As he has net in the car, he took one home. 

Of course, I released her (it's a female he said) after the quick photographing.

*Egret and flowers*

When I found this Fern Palm, I thought the contrast with pine tree is quite unique. And I'm surprised to learn that the yellowish flower only blooms about every 10 years.  

Also finding the derivation of the Japanese name (ソテツ・蘇鉄, sotetu), I thought it really interesting.  And reminds me of a Japanese idiom. (in the Etymology page)

        *Irises under the Day Light*

As my neighbor had told me that the irises were almost in full bloom, I went there to enjoy the beauty :-)   On 10th this month;      

Went Down the stairs with Hydrangea;

Varieties of Irises (skipping the names of them :-)

Found some critters there on that day;

I thought he is a puppy but Mom of this boy said he is more than 10 years old:-)

Fence with light bulbs for the illumination and Bride;

On 9th night;  visited the day before, funny that I happened to see the night scene first.

Visit to Nature Observation Park;

(I've change the header with really unmatched one for newer post; I especially feel so sorry for the friends coming from the previous post's links.) 

*Kirara-Hama Nature Observation Park*
On 29th, we visited  this Nature Observation Park located about half an hour drive away from home. Originally, this was the reclaimed land for farming but had been left unused.  This park was opened in 2001 by using the land.  My husband heard that we can see butterflies in the reed-field and wished to visit this place. Although we could see only a few butterflies and birds this time, we'll visit here again to see more of them.

PS:  Four-spotted Skimmer really looks like Libellula angelina which we thought we found p:-)  Libellula angelina is called 'Tortoise Shell Dragonfly' in Japanese.  There are little differences for them, for example the black spots of  'four-spotted' are smaller.

Saturday Critters;

*Pantala flavescens (Globe Skimmer)，ウスバキトンボ*

This is second time of this kind of dragonfly appears in my blog:-)  It is only this year I started to pay attention to critters,  I was surprised to realize that we can see them a lot around my area. While waiting for my shopping, my husband kindly caught him for me. Amazingly he was clinging to the window with his thin legs.

I wondered the white part  on the wings (just stain?).

I appreciated his short visit, he flew away happily from the window.

*Borzoi, ボルゾイ*

My first encounter with Borzoi ♡♡♡  She was taking a walk with her master when we were downtown the other day. Her master kindly accepted my request of taking her pictures. I learned from pc that 'Borzoi' means 'agile' in Russian and aristocrat of Russian Empire used to have them for wolf hunting. 

          She doesn't seem to be the young one but I wished to see her run p:)

I had Shetland sheepdog before I was 30 years old. 

After he died, my husband doesn't want me to have another dog.

Dragonfly and Rubbish

While fiddling with pc looking for the place to see dragonfly, I found this place. As you can see, lots of green around the rice paddy and good environment for dragonfly♪　

Catch Phrase of this place is "Starting Station of  Rice Paddy and Dragonflies"

Rhyothemis fuliginosa; we call 'cho-tonbo 蝶トンボ, butterfly dragonfly'.
Funny name but their wings are rather wide :-)

We have different names "male→shiokara-tonbo female→mugiwara-tonbo"

C.atrata  We call 'haguro tonbo 羽黒トンボ, black winged dragonfly'
