Drum Recital, Canola Flower and New Era's Name in Japan ;

Drum Recital
In the middle of last month, Lady Keyboard player (who also teaches drum) of the band  my husband involves held a recital for her students. She was checking or adjusting the drums for the students. It sure must have been a great time with rewarding feeling for her and all the participants♪
And I was happy to see the Kites on the wall of the stage. They are the ones I enjoyed and posted in this page. The man who made the kites was there and also enjoyed the performance as well.

Canola Flower and Kurume-gasuri
Around the same period of time, I went to Kyushu district for one day trip to see Canola Flower and Kasuri・ (cloth with a splashed pattern) with my cousin.  At the Roadside Station called "Basaro";  Canola Flowers were in full bloom; I've never seen this flower widespread like this in the field.

*Cloth famous for Kurume district called Kurume-gasuri*
This video is really noisy from the machines, Would you please turn of the sound;

Japan's New "Gengo“ is "令和. Reiwa;Fortunate Harmony”

Today, 1 April , 11:30 in the morning Japan Time
 Mr. Suga, the chief cabinet secretary, unveiled the new imperial era name on TV;
This is the link page of this news for detailed information.
In Japan, we have "Gengo", name of the Reign of the Emperor. The new era will begin on 1 May, a day after the emperor, Akihito – whose era is known as Heisei (achieving peace) – makes way for his eldest son, Crown Prince Naruhito.  So we have two ways to define Year, "Christian Era (A.D.) and Gengo". We use both of them for different purposes in accordance to the use.
These two Chinese characters, taken from the eighth-century work Man’yoshu, the oldest existing anthology of Japanese poetry, can be read as “fortunate” or “auspicious”, and “peace” or “harmony.”
   So sorry for this long post and also deeply sorry for not being able to visit you.
Hope the April will be the Bright Start of the New fiscal Year;

  2. Looks like it was a great recital with lots of children. I love the stage decoration with colorful kites!
    What a spectacular view of the yellow field of canola flowers! It must have been a very pleasant one day trip. As I can’t see the field in person, I really appreciate you for sharing these photos :-)
    I heard about the new Gengo from my Japanese coworker. Reiwa sounds lovely. As a person born in Showa era, I feel old to see yet another Gengo after Heisei :-)Happy April, Miyako san!

  3. Thank you for this post with much variety! In the USA many more men play the drum, and would not be surprised if the same would be for teaching! We love kites. We taught all three of our kids to fly a kite!The canola leaf fields are beautiful and vibrant!
    Today is April 1 (in the USA a day of playing pranks on one another(, but luckily no one played a joke on me:) Many thanks for linking Miyako to All Seasons and have a great week!

  4. Miyako - until our son became involved with percussion, I had no idea a drum needed to be tuned. She looks very happy in the photo with the flowers and all of her students! I was interested in your pictures of the canola field. In the UK, it is very common to plant large fields of canola (which they call rapeseed), and it is a beautiful sight when passing them on the motorway. Thank you for explaining the difference between gengo and the calendar year - I hope that the whole world will enter an era of "auspicious harmony". I appreciate your participation in Mosaic Monday!
