Preconception and Easter

When does new week start, Sunday or Monday?
Yesterday(Sunday), my husband and one of his acquaintances were talking about the news of power plant in Fukushima. We all kind of feel scary about the way problems arose one after another.  So hus's friend said,"What will we expect next week?".  In his mind, Monday is the start of the week. Although nothing is wrong about it, their talk developed and it was so curious that he mentioned western people take a rest first whereas Japanese rest later after working. He is a bit senior to my husband and doesn't seem to think about the difference of religious background. Might it be a preconception or just one of the idea who has less interests for cultural differences? Anyways, it doesn't seem that there is definite answer to the question. Almost all the Japanese accept or don't feel peculiar to the calender which Sunday is the left end, but think Monday is the start of the week. It sure is funny, isn't it?

Happy Easter
Well, my friend's blog reminded me of the coming Easter.
Even if I am a Japanese and don't have much knowledge of Christianity, I want to celebrate the occasion with western people and my followers.

Hope you all will be able to have a happy Easter

  1. Hello Orchid
Thank you for stopping by to visit me. What a cute Blog you have.
I think the week starts with Monday, but our Calendar says Sunday, Bit I'm choosing Monday, the start of the work day.
    Wishing you a happy day!

  2. Hi Orchid! I love your little Easter picture. I always believed Monday is the first day of the week and Sunday is a day of rest, at least when I was working :-) xo,

  3. In the Old Testament, the God decided the seven days of the week and decided Sunday is the first day of the week. In Japan we adapted this western calender. But now in many modern societies in the world, it's much convenient to set Monday is the first day. For me it's much easier to fill out the schedule book of which calender starts from Monday. This way I can write my weekend plan over Sat.& Sun. in a row. Right?

  6. Your Easter pictures are just adorable! I think whatever day of the week you wish to be the beginning is just fine. Some say Sunday, some say Monday. To me, it is all revolving time like a wheel and each day is sacred. Have a wonderful week, my sweet friend!
