Porridge with seven herbs & Rice-Cake making;

*The seven herb rice porridge*

The seven herb rice porridge (七草粥・nanakusagayu) was introduced from China and then became popular in Japan by Edo period. Traditionally, we have dish on Jan.7th. Its original intention is to protect oneself against evils and invite good luck and longevity by eating the seven herbs that endure the cold winter. From this Wikipedia page page you can see the detail.        Picture of the left side is 7 herbs from PC and the right side is the package I bought to make the porridge. Let me show some pictures how I made this dish.

Below is the picture of how I made this Dish;

*Rice-Cake making from last year*
Sorry for late posting for this topic. Not like previous years, we didn't have guests this year. So a bit quiet and need to make only for us about 150 of them. p-;)  We have to wait about 35 minutes after  glutinous rice washed and put inside the rice-cake-maker.
For the "Saturday's critters" I found this heron at the city port;
Thank you very much for stopping by,
Hoping all of you had started a good new year;

  3. Dearest Miyako,
    Every afternoon I have tea, mainly green tea, with a tamarind rice cake.
    Love they and you're fortunate for being able to make your own!
    Hugs,
