Picture below is from PC page of this Japanese Winter Dish.
The explanation below is almost copied from my old post;
Oden is a typical Japanese one-pot winter dish in which ingredients are slowly simmered in soy sauce based soup. I put hard-boiled eggs, devil's tongue (or konjaca; chewy plant-based gelatin), daikon (radish), and various types of Japanese fried fish balls and fish cakes, mushroom, a kind of potato called koimo, flied tofu. I especially love the hard-boiled eggs, which has the subtle taste of the oden broth. You may think it is not a delicious looking dish because of its brownish color, haha. Well, this yummy dish can bring everyone in the family around the table, sharing good food and making nice conversation of the day, I love the sweet atmosphere of this dish and brings back my memories with my family of childhood time♪♪♪
I make this dish several times during winter every year.
I found this Eastern Buzzard perching on the Electrical Wire.

Dearest Miyako,
ReplyDeleteNo doubt that makes a tasty and fulfilling winter dish!
Wondering if the Eastern Buzzard got a delicious meal for the day...
Hugs,
Mariette
Can imagine the smiles when sitting around the table with family or friends to eat this dish. Are the fishcakes mad beforehand and then put in? Didn't know that daikon is radish - I wonder if it's the same as what we call radish - a sharp tasting veggie that look like little balls - a rose-red on top and white at the bottom? Many thanks for sharing this warm winter dish with All Seasons! Have a lovely week, Jesh
ReplyDeleteMiyako - we all have favorite dishes, especially when it is cold outside. Something to warm our hearts and our stomachs. And even better when family is with us. Thanks for linking to Mosaic Monday!

Great photo of the Buzzard! I think your Oden dish looks delicious and so warming for a cold night! :)
ReplyDeleteI am very curious and very interested in exploring more of Japanese cuisine outside of sushi and sashimi.
