Hagi-City and Kikuya Residence & about new pc etc;

*Visiting Hagi-City with my friend*
At old Castle town called "Hagi-City" in my Prefecture, we can still enjoy architecture with old style wall with white lime plaster. This entrance of the (used to be) toll way has the tiled roof which is very rare.
           The sign says "Welcome to Hagi".

*Kikuya Residence 菊屋家住宅 *

 Kikuya Residence was built in the first decade of the 17th century and belonged to the wealthy merchant Kikuya who provided services to the Hagi Clan. The main house, the principal warehouse, the treasury, the rice warehouse and the kitchen house have been listed on the National Register of Important Cultural Properties.

  1. Beautiful entrance of this castle, Miyako! I love the art on the big wall screens - so beautiful! The art on the table as well! My guess is that the Hagi clan was a well-known and important family in Japan's history? The little birds as so cute! Many thanks for interesting weekly stories of Japan for All Seasons! Much appreciated:)

  2. Miyako - it is terrific that these old structures have been maintained. In the third picture, are those oranges in the trees? The wagtail is adorable and looks like he was posing for you. Thanks for linking to Mosaic Monday!

  6. Hi Miyako,
    Your photos of Japanese buildings are so interesting to see. I love to read about your culture. Now I have a new book at hand, called Wabi sabi. The writer tries to explain to us from the west what philosophy lies in this expression! Very interesting. Wishing you a lovely week.

  7. 400-year old buildings, wow! They look fragile but no doubt are very sturdy. That's craftsmanship.
