Dried shiitake mushrooms and Sweet Bramblings etc;

Year-End Gift from husband's brother
In Japan, we exchange Summer Gifts and Year-End gifts between relatives and so on. Christmas presents are mainly for children.  Last year-end, my husband's brother gave us Dried Shiitake Mushrooms. They can give deep savory flavor, (umami・旨味: in Japanese), to dishes. Here is the two pages about them part1/ part2
This is the Dish called "Nishime";We simmer vegetables with soy sauce.
 I'm really Thankful for my husband's brother♪
I happened to find some female Redstarts on the same day I made this dish ;-)
On 6th this month, I found these sweet Bramblings having lunch together. I was really happy with their adorable faces and the pictures came out well♪

OH, how flexible and acrobatic they can be♡♡♡

Thank you very much for  visiting and sweet comments.  Have a great weekend.

  3. Dearest Miyako,
LOVE the Shii-Take mushrooms as they have the best flavor of all mushrooms and are very healthy too.
Those birds are very happy and healthy looking with plenty of food.

  4. The birds seem to be holding poses for you. :-) I love their colors. I also like shiitake mushrooms. Now and then I buy a few fresh ones to add to a dish. Mmmm.

  5. Dried Shiitake mushrooms, yum! What a great gift! They do give really good flavor to the dishes. Your Nishime looks so delicious!
Beautiful photos of Redstarts. Maybe because of background color, they look like beautiful artwork :-) And such delightful photos of Bramblings! They are so cute having lunch together and looking pretty!
Have a wonderful new week, Miyako san xo

  6. Miyako - mushrooms make such a tasty addition to many dishes. I think it is interesting that your vegetable dish was simmered with soy sauce - I typically think of soy sauce as a sauce for dipping AFTER the meal is prepared. I will have to try this. The pictures of the acrobatic Bramblings are so entertaining - I can see why you like them so much. Thank you for sharing these charming critters with Mosaic Monday!

  7. What a fun tradition you have - summer gifts and year-end gifts! They sure are times to celebrate. I am not a great fan of mushrooms, love chantarelles and false morels (?), though. Your critters are so pretty. Happy MM.

  9. Wow, I like that: presents twice a year! Do you also celebrate birthdays with presents? Many adults here do, but lately we have kept it to going to one of our favorite restaurants:)
I love to eat Shiitakes - mostly in pasta dishes or soups.
It's amazing you often seem to manage finding more than one bird for your captures. The Bramblings are beautiful and a sweet pair. Many thanks for All Seasons and have an adventurous week!

  10. So nice you could find the cute little birds. I miss the spring and summer birds at our cabin. Right now we have the resident ravens and an occasional heron. - Margy
