*Altered Size of the shirt by my Aunt*
My husband was gifted "Aloha Shirt" by one of the members of the band group he belongs to. Wow, L-size of the shirt perplexed me as 'both of us' are really small. He knew my clumsiness with "Handwork " and who to ask for alteration. I saw "pedal sewing machine" after a long while. My aunt has been working as a dressmaker. I remember my late mother also was using one and eagerly waiting to see what I would have later a lot more than half a century ago p;-) I really am Thankful to my aunt ♫♫♫
*My aunt's sewing machine and Overlock Sewing machine*
As a professional, she said electric one is not good for the detail work. My husband was really happy for his first Aloha Shirt. |
Below is my 20 year old machine (second one).
Both machines hasn't been used much; making me irritating not going smoothly -;) |
I think it was close to 60 years ago. I was looking into my mother's machine.
And left one is I found pedal one from 1950's in the PC's picture page.
*Bird and flower*
Female Redstart I found this Feb. in front of my house.

Recently, I cannot find any birds around my area, except a couple of herons in the river. We have had temp. almost close to 40℃. Never experienced this excessive heat. This lovely redstart makes me feel tiny bit cooler :-)
This Double-daffodil (not posted) was gifted this spring by lady keyboard player♪
Love this gorgeous flower. I don't think I have seen with my own eyes;-)
Thank you very much for stopping by;
Sorry for the longer than the usual long post. Finally Obon- season was over.
Wish to have the normal pace back.

That is such a cool looking aloha shirt! Glad your aunt did alteration to make it fit for your husband :-) I remember seeing the pedal sewing machine when I was a kid. I think it was at my grandma’s place. I love the sweet photo of you looking into your mom’s machine :-)
ReplyDeleteThe double daffodil is beautiful! I don’t think I’ve seen it in person, either. Such a pretty redstart. I hope birds found cooler places to stay in this hot summer. And I hope it’s getting cooler in your area.
Have a wonderful new week, Miyako san xo
Knew all these old sewing machines, because I did the beginning a a training for sewing teach, but I stopped - it was not interesting enough for me:) Sorry it's so hot in Japan (just like here!)
ReplyDeleteI wonder if the birds are hiding because of the heat?
Many thanks for sharing the sewing machines with All Seasons! The shirt for your husband had a beautiful re-make!
Many thanks for sharing this all with All Seasons, and have a wonderful (cooler!) week!
What a great shirt, I imagine your husband looks quite summery in it and will appreciate it's coolness during those very hot days you're having.
ReplyDeleteLovely flower and bird images as always, they really brighten up my day.
Thank you. Happy Mosaic Monday.
Nice to meet you on MAGIC MONDAY... Great captures and a nice story about the SINGER!

I am very blessed to have my mother's sewing machine. It has not been used for sewing for many years, but it is nice to know I have it if I need to do very simple things (which is all I know how to do). Right now it is serving as a dressing table in our guest room, so it is useful! Enjoy your week ahead.
ReplyDeleteLoved the redstart. An interesting share about the sewing machines.
ReplyDeleteYour nature photos are so pretty! You live in a gorgeous part of the world.
ReplyDeleteI love that you have memories and photos of something your mom did so well.
I remember my Granny's pedal sewing machine -- memories! Beautiful redstart and the double daffodil is gorgeous. Have a lovely weekend.
ReplyDeleteThank you for visiting my blogsite... Answering your question: I work professional as a graphic designer.
ReplyDeleteBest regards
I have my mother's old Singer treadle sewing machine which I made my first clothes on when I was a teenager. My electric one I bought with my first pay, over 40 years ago. It is still working well! Have a great week. I am visiting you from Communal Global.
ReplyDeleteI have to confess that I am not very handy with sewing machine either :) Mainly use it for straight lines, as for curtains etc. I have an old sewing machine 'Singer' in my garden holding a planter for annuals. Wishing you a nice week Miyako.
ReplyDeleteDear Miyako,
ReplyDeleteYour aunt did a great alteration of the aloha shirt. My grandmother used to have a pedal (or treadle) sewing machine. I liked to pump it back and forth with my feet when I was a child. My mother sewed many of our clothes, and she still sews a little every day. I have two sewing machines and like to sew, too.
The way the Japanese characters mimic the shapes they represent is very intriguing.
I hope your week is going well.
Lorrie
I don't have great sewing skills, so I admire the alteration of the shirt. Great work! Thank you for linking up today, and always! I do appreciate it!
ReplyDeleteGreat job on the shirt. Hope you stay safe and the the storms won't hit Japan too badly.
ReplyDeleteHello, I love the Aloha shirt. You did great with the alterations. Your Redstart is a beautiful bird, lovely photos. Thanks so much for linking up your post. Happy Saturday, enjoy your weekend!
