Furin-festival at Shrine and Dragonfly etc;

Furin-festival at Local Shrine
Japanese Wind Chime is called "Furin 風鈴" in Japanese.  Each Chinese character represent "wind Bell".  We "maybe used to" enjoy its soothing sound during summer hanging outside or near the windows. From this site, I learned it was believed that when a strong wind blows, an epidemic will spreadTherefore, in order to avoid epidemics and to ward off evil, a bell called "futaku 付託 (entrust)" was hung up.

At the shine, you can buy these furin and write your wish on the 短冊; "Tanzaku is a strip of fancy paper" and hung onto the wood frame.  I found a grandfather taking pictures of his two granddaughters with furin.

Two Golden Flangetail  at Tokiwa-lake
My husband took me to the lake remembered taking pictures there and posted them in my blog before.
First one is a female (husband IDed) on top of the tree having lunch not flying away. I took a video but I decided not to post it ;-)  I am really Thankful to my husband who is good at finding Dragonfly which perch on top of things.

Second one (male) was at the lake side clinging on the old branch. And has a broken wing. To make the place clearly I used a picture of wider view to make a collage. Too blurry to see where it was p-;)
Left; My friend sent me a picture of a Swallowtail Butterfly with white flower (sorry hasn't ID the name). Right; Narcissus from late spring.
ps;Thanks to my friend "riitta k " , she IDed the flower above for me♪
It is "phlox" and I could see them from the pc's Picture Page♡♡♡
Thank you very much for stopping by;      Now, Typhoon  is passing along Japan.
TV  is covering about it concerning Secondary Disaster.
Tide-up with  many  household-chores and  odd-jobs , Hoping to visit you soon
Wishing you are having or will have a wonderful Sunday and new week!

  1. The sound of the wind chimes was like beautiful music. The white flower the butterfly is sitting on seems to me a phlox. Pretty dragonflies. Happy new week Miyako.

  3. I forgot about the narcissus. Few people grow them here these days. Your photos of the dragonflies are amazing. The poor boy with his wing chipped. I'm glad he was still able to do his thing.

  4. Dearest Miyako,
We too have a wind chime in the gazebo and I love the sound; very soothing to me.
On the video it almost sounds like lots of birds are making noises.
You are quite a photographer with those dragonfly shoots. Excellent.
Hoping that the Typhoon will bypass Japan and not do any damage.
    Hugs,
    Mariette

  6. Some amazing captures of the Damselfly, Myako! Nice to have a husband who helps you looking! The Swallowtail butterfly is also very beautiful! And the wind chimes (so many kinds!) are so cheerful! I have a big (metal) one with 4 (musical) tones. Great for sharing all this summer beauty with All Seasons! Enjoy your week!

  9. Wind chimes sound so pretty tinkling in the breeze. The group of them together make a lovely sound. The dragonflies are beautiful, ethereal creatures that I find so hard to capture on camera. Your husband's photos are gorgeous, and you created a great collage. I hope the typhoon passes without too much damage. My daughter and her husband plan to visit Japan in September. It's such a beautiful country.

  11. Japan has been through so much extreme weather as have other parts of the globe. The site of dragonflies and the magical furin sounds are the beautiful moments that help us through.

  14. Thank you for the beautiful dragonfly pictures (and thank you to your 'eagle-eyed' husband who is such a good spotter!). I smiled at 'maybe used to' ... when it comes to wind-chimes that is how we feel. They can be a bit annoying when you would like peace and quiet. But the ones you show with the paper wishes are beautiful, and I really did enjoy learning the origin of the custom. Sending hope and good wishes that the typhoon and follow-up storms do not cause too much damage (or did not).

  18. I always enjoy visiting your blog and learning new things about your culture. The furin festival decorations are truly lovely … I like the idea of writing wishes on the strips of paper - I am imagining that the wishes are being delicately blown into the world, hopefully to be fulfilled.
