Sumiyoshi-Festival and rice paddy etc;

*Performed  at the Eve of Festival *
My husband's band group was invited to the next city's festival held at Sumiyoshi-Shrine "住吉神社" and performed in the early evening at the eve of Festival (27th).

Let me introduce some Yosakoi performance and Mikoshi we could see this year with Videos and pictures.    "yosakoi" link  is a unique style of dance and the term came from Japanese archaic term '夜さり来い. yosarikoi

At the Shrine, many little bamboo lanterns were decorated alongside the stairs and path. There were papers inside the lanterns; DREAMS in the future were written by school children on them. I'll include some night scenes as well.
From the left  *wish to have a cake-shop; *wish to be a nurse;*wish to be a model;
Next Day on 28th (main ceremonial festival), we enjoyed several "Mikoshi" link  considered as 'portable shinto shrine' parade. (hope you can enjoy with very short videos)

*Bubulcus  Ibis and  Lesser Emperor  at Rice Pddy, etc*
Bubulcus Ibis 'アマサギ' etc I found at the rice paddy on 24th. They seem to be having fun with tractor♪ And Lesser Emperor'ギンヤンマ' my husband found for me.

Unidentified Red Flower
For the last, I found this bright red flower on a fence of a house the other day.  Made me feel happy finding my first flower (^.^)

After came back from the main festival yesterday, my husband expected me to post this topic soon.  Wish you will have a WONDERFUL new week.

  1. Good morning from Normandy, Orchid, I always love reading about the things you and your husband take part in, the mosaic featuring the shrine has some amazing shadow captures and the messages left on the steps were interesting to see.
    Love the heron mosaic, too.
    Have a wonderful week, and happy MM.

  2. Thank you so much Miyako for introducing us to Japanese culture. Of course I do not understand the meanings or traditions but it was interesting to see the videos. That bird is so cute and the red blooming shrub very pretty. Have a lovely week!

  3. I bet the Rice festival was fun! I love taiko drums -- such a wonderful sound! The Ibis is stunning. I believe the bright red flower is one I call a "bottle brush". Butterflies and hummingbirds love it. So do I!!! Lovely post. Happy Monday!

  4. Hi Miyako san. I enjoyed the photos and videos! Yosakoi performance is very impressive, looks modern! Loved the mikoshi, too. And the lights of lanterns in the night are so beautiful.
    Amasagi are so cute handing out around the tractor. They are not scared at all :-) I wonder what are those unidentified flowers. They kind of look like bottle brush, but very pretty bottle brush :-)

    Have a wonderful week, Miyako san xoxo

  12. Hello Dear Miyako, a wonderful posting once more! The music from your Husband's band is great. I really enjoyed the videos too - such energy from the dance team, really dynamic.
    The childrens' dreams and wishes are beautiful, what a lovely idea.
    The Ibis had such soft peach colours (good finding by your Husband).
    I was so very happy to see that gorgeous red flower - we have them in our garden and they're called Callistemon (Bottle Brush is the common name). The birds and bees delight in their nectar!
    Thank you for your kind wishes and I hope your week is a very happy one. Cheers from Australia xx

  13. We call that flower a 'bottlebrush tree' but I do not know what the real name of it is. Always love seeing the rice paddies and the birds that love them!

    It looked like your husband and the whole band were having a great time at the Festival. The videos didn't work for me, but I know it is because I have a very slow connection today. I will come back again and listen this evening, when it is usually better.

  18. Dearest Miyako,
    Wow, that was a lot of activity and culture in this post!
    Your husband's band is performing several times and it must be a joy for all its members, for seeing happy crowds.
    Cultural dances indeed and that painting must be very hard on the floor, according to their moans also.
    Lovely water birds spotted by your husband near the rice paddy.
    Thanks for sharing!
    Hugs,
    Mariette

  20. This week I listened to the drums - such a powerful sound, and I like the dance they did! It seems many of the Eastern nations have a warrior-like folklore, and the Western more dance and costume oriented ones. Love how you showed the Japanese customs here and linking it up with All Seasons. Thank you for your kind comment last week! Have a beautiful week, Miyako!

  22. What wonderful videos! I love the dance style, the dragons, and the thought of those lanterns containing the dreams of children. What a wonderful festival.

  23. The lanterns are adorable. Love the dragon! How interesting to see the rice paddies. I farm, but if I saw that much water, it would mean a total loss of crops. Beautiful bird! Thanks so much for joining Friday's Hunt. Enjoy the rest of your week!

  25. Interesting red flowers, I see someone mentioned Bottle Brush, that's what it reminded me of, too. Not a good place to have tractor trouble! Lots of birds to watch, but not much help! Thanks for sharing the festival.
