Doll 'Girl's Day' Festival on March 3rd;

 (posted; Japanese culture page)

*Hinamaturi '雛祭り';  Girl's Day Festival exhibition by local Handicraft Association*
Knowing from the local TV news, I went to next city's department store to see this exhibition.
This association is called 'タンポポの会 Tanpopo no kai'.  I was so amazed at the big scale of exhibited works. I couldn't post pictures as many as I satisfied to show you p:-)  Even so, please bear me with this long picture post.

*First time to see Hina-Doll made of Cocoon Filament*

*Japanese bride wearing Kimono bridal costume*

*Works with Monkey's Design which is this year's Oriental Zodiac Sign*

  3. Oh, my, what wonderful, gorgeous designs, Miyako. I've missed some posts recently, so catching up today. I have a friend who lived in Japan for a few years and took classes to design some dolls. She has some beautiful ones. Thanks for sharing these. Hugs from Texas!

  4. Dearest Miyako,
    Only people in East Asia can create such fine and intricate work!
    Oh my those silk cocoons are tiny, well relatively and thus those dolls are very small and intricate to work.
    Amazing results and all those costumes, true to their cultural meaning.
    Since I've been studying husband Pieter's trip to East Asia I have seen a lot of customs that one only can admire. The silk weaving is so spectacular, those brocades for formal wear...
    Lovely photos and thanks for doing this for your readers!!!
    Hugs,
    Mariette

  5. Wow, this is such a fantastic exhibit! I've never seen hina-doll made of cocoon filament, either. They look simple and elegant! And other colorful exhibits are so much fun for eyes :-) Monkey artworks are very pretty. I have nieces who are in Jr. high school now. They always had hina-dolls out but I wonder if they still do. I hope so because it's such a lovely tradition :-)
    Have a happy new week, Miyako san xoxo
