Sparrows and Shellfish digging etc;

*Many Sparrows were having rice*
While driving for errand, we found many sparrows were having lunch offered rice by (probably) neighbor.  I thought I might as well taking video :-p)

flying back and forth from the road to the tree;
I forgot the wider picture where they were.
When we went there on our way back, they were all gone.

*Shellfish Digging* (this part posted; Japanese meal page)
On a same day way back home, we spotted some people were digging shellfish. The shellfish is Cyrenidae Graywe call it 'シジミ, shijimi'.
This particular shellfish said to have the medicinal effect of enhancing the liver function and live in the brackish waters (of an estuary). I knew they live in the area 'estuary' which has water that has more salinity than fresh water. My husband proudly taught me the area is called '汽水域, kisuiiki' in Japanese :-)

With this shellfish, we normally cook miso-soup. I had urge to eat bowl of conger eel and rice. Believe me, they are yummy.

*And for the flower link*
The white one I found at the roadside which I couldn't find name. And gifted picture
of our friend 'hellebore', we call it 'Christmas rose' ♪

I DO hope you are having a wonderful week;  See You Soon, friends;

ps; Reading Dearest Theresa's comment, I checked with pc.
found these (A. B) pages.  Please refer to them. Thank you, Theresa♪

  1. i hope the rice was cooked. i've heard that birds can suffer death from eating uncooked rice that later expands in their crop and digestive system.

    the shellfish sounds good! beautiful blooms. :)

  3. Such cute sparrows! They look chubby - they must get plenty of food around there :-)
    It's so lovely to see people digging shellfish. When I was a child, my parents took us to a beach to do shellfish digging. It was so much fun!
    I've never been a fan of eel, but I did like eating rice with eel sauce :-) Have a wonderful day, Miyako san xoxo

  4. I, too, had heard of birds dying from uncooked rice. That would be a sad thing.

  8. Miyako, here I am again. Beautiful sparrows. The movie is cute. Here we have sparrows too and it are such nice birds. Their sound we call: tjilpen. (they are saying: tjilp, thilp).

    Your shellfish are similar to mussels? I wish you both a good weekend. Greetings from The Netherlands to Japan :)

  9. Pretty flowers and yummy looking dishes. You can have the eel, but I'd love some miso soup. I'm not sure my knees could take digging for clams but it might be fun rooting around in the sand.

  10. Very interesting post. I enjoyed seeing the people looking for the clams/muscles. I don't like shellfish much though to eat. Cute little birds.

  11. Dearest Miyako,
    Wow, without having a wedding, where they throw rice, you could take pictures of these happy birds eating rice! It is harmless and of course in the fields they can eat it too.
    Oh and your dinner with the shellfish and a bowl of conger eel with rice made me mouth water!
    Guess your white flowers are the Crinum asiaticum or Giant Spider lily.
    Sending you hugs and wishing for a happy weekend.

  12. That Christmas Rose is such a deep, beautiful burgundy color.

    The unknown flower is very pretty too. A spider flower...gosh, I cannot think of the name right now.

    Of course, love the sparrows.

    I'm here visiting from Denise's Today's Flowers!!

  23. I've never had any eel congee. How different is the Japanese congee to Chinese congee?

  25. So many beautiful photos, but I love the little brown sparrows best. One seems larger than the others, so perhaps the smaller ones were just born this year.
