Winter Jasmine: 黄梅(ou-bai: yellow apricot) ;

  Posted "Etymology page"
Yesterday, we went to the city office to deal with anther office procedure. I remembered hearing about the Winter Jasmine blooming at the temple I posted here. We call the tree "黄梅, ou-bai", which literally means "yellow apricot".
            Surprised me and another fact blogging helped me to learn(^_^)v
       I had NO idea it is  in  Jasmine family (or a type of, maybe) and not apricot.
I think the tree isn't pruned well, but the flowers were beautiful there♪

*Japanese Pygmy Woodpecker*
My first lucky encounter with this 'コゲラ; Kogera' on the tree at the temple ♪ Unfortunately, I just could take one picture. I checked its name with pc right after I came home. I found it interesting to know that we call woodpeckers ".....-gera".

You must be spotting me :-)

  13. It's interesting ou-bai is in Jasmine family. I'd imagine it would be apricot based on the name! The blooms are so pretty. I love yellow flowers :-)
    That's a great shot of Kogera. His wings look similar to the wings of woodpeckers I see around here.

    I'll get busy for a while. I'm sorry if I can't visit you as often as usual. Have a wonderful week, Miyako san!

  18. I plant a small purple flowered Japanese Jasmine in my garden every year. Unfortunately they are unable to survive our winters, but I replant them each year because they are so beautiful. I would never have thought that an apricot tree was related to Jasmaine either. These are beautiful,Orchid, and I love the yellow flowers.
