One of the most famous Wooden Bridges in Japan;

(Header made from this page;)

This bridge is called "錦帯橋, Kintaikyo"
One of the three masterpiece of wooden bridges in Japan.

My husband's brother lives very close to this famous bridge. Last Sunday, his wife had 60th birthday celebration as well as retirement form her job as a nurse. We were able to have a wonderful gathering with nieces and their babies as well.  After leaving their house, I decided to take pictures to introduce this bridge. Here is the English page you can read the detail by category;

*The view from the parking lot alongside the river*

*View from the road side after go up the stairs from the parking lot*
entrance to the bridge; you can see the cars parked under the bridge

*Crossing the Bridge*

*After crossing, view from the opposite side of the river*
This bridge leads to the castle located above the mountain. And enabled the vassals of the land lord to gather swiftly for the important meetimg etc.

As the link page said, this unique and sophisticated construction of the bridge arches is said to be impeccable, even from the perspective of modern bridge engineering. This is not the original bridge, rebuild version.

  7. Such a beautiful bridge. It reminds of the path a stone will take when skipped across the water. Have a great day Miyako! Wendy x

  8. What a stunning bridge! Your photographs are wonderful, Miyako! I really enjoyed reading the history of the bridge, and learning that they refused to use concrete in the re-build. I am so glad they did not. The stone bases are beautiful! I love the arches, and would love to see this beautiful bridge one day.

    Thanks for your wonderful comments on both of my Mesa Verde posts. I always love reading what you have to say!

  9. By the way, Mesa Verde means "green table" which reflected the early days of vegetation on the surface. It had to be a lush environment at one time.

  10. Dearest Miyako,
    What a sad history on this bridge from the 17th Century on... so many times rebuilt. So this actual photo shows the 1989 version; rebuilt again after the typhoon.
    Hugs,
    Mariette
