My old-old job;

Before I got married with my husband when 22 years old, I had been working as a typewriter typist. Or rather, I was using photo-composer like the pictures below.
(link of the picture page)

More than 35 years ago, I used this machine to make big title fonts' characters, which old (carbon used) typewriter cannot type. Needed to change lenses to fix the size. And of course you have to develop the photos after finish writing on the special paper.
My old friends might know that I'm so careless making many typos when commenting. It was rather painstaking for me to see or reminded me of my weak point. It was certainly not a job for me (and also learned I shouldn't drive, haha)
On the other hand, this job helped me to grow in a various way. Enhanced my capacity of concentration and patience. What is more, I must have owned a basic interest for typing; as long as without a sense of strong responsibility p;)
In a way, I think I chose a right job for me as this job didn't require me physical labor. Through watching TV drama, my dream job was a flight attendant, whom I thought were so elegant and fluent in English.
Did you or do you have a job which fits to you?   For me; fifty-fifty(^^;)

  2. Miyako, we share many things! I was a secretary for over 20 years. But that machine you used looks complicated. I had a chuckle when you said you worked as a typewriter, I knew you meant typist! However, when I was working, I definitely felt more like a machine. xo

  4. To Dearest Barbara;
    Good morning from Japan my friend.
    I wrote my carelessness and didn't realize this one(^^;) Thank you very much for letting me know.
    I used the line (strike-through, maybe?), not just correcting it p;)
    I can easily guess you must have been a efficient secretary.
    Love and Hugs to you,xoxo Miyako*

  7. Dearest Miyako,
    You started off with a very complicated job; hard on the eyes too.
    When I went to elementary school I always wanted to be a teacher. Well, with some detours, after having been a part time secretary and harvest manager (one job) I became one in my consulting job. It is funny looking back how we all started out but I think that it will be very rare for going straight on to become what you always dreamed you would want to do... Being a flight attendant is very hard physical work but they made it look oh so glamorous at that time!
    Hugs and love,
    Mariette

  8. How fascinating, my dear friend! I don't think I could ever master anything so complicated. I did end up being what I wanted, a teacher. And now I am what I want, retired! So enjoyed learning more about you today~

  9. Wow that's a big machine! With my job, I like 50 % of what I do, but I don't like other 50 %. I guess it's so so :-) My old job, I think it fit me well, but was way too hard with looooong overtime hours. I'm glad I changed my job :-)

  10. I was a secretary and administrative assistant for 30 years...sometimes I liked what I did very much. Sometimes I did not. I think most people's jobs are like that.

    I am not mechanical at all and that machine you used would have scared me to death (I would never have been hired for such a job).

  12. Hi, my dear Miyako,
    今年も宜しくお願いします。
    The machine looks hard to use.
    You wanted to become a stewardess?
    Me too. But my eyesight was not good. So till I married, I was a teacher.
    Have a nice weekend!

  13. Dearest Miyako , this machine looks very interesting - I 've never seen anything like this! I also work in an office. At the beginning of my working years I worked in an hospital in the Secretariat and wrote medical reports. Then I worked in an office, where we designed creative children's activities and museum educational activities for young people. This was my best job , because at that time I was able to participate in creative activities and work with the children. I have also trained as a children's ski instructor , which was great fun. After my daughter was born, I saddled on to a part-time job in an accounts department. I do not like working with numbers, but the working-time of 20 hours per week suits me more than a full-time-job.
    Thank you very much for your nice comment! You should not be embarrassed because of this small mistake. Austria and Germany are really next to each other. I 've never been to Japan and what I know about your beautiful country is very, very little.
    I hope your husband is now healthy again!
    Happy weekend and warm hugs, Traude
