Invited to Soba Restaurant

(posted; Soba Noodle page)
After they visited my father at his hospital, my aunt(sister-in-law of my father) and cousin invited us to the Soba-restaurant yesterday. The owner started the restaurant a few years ago, close to my aunt's house, after he retired. She kindly invited us as they had never tried the restrant before. We were surprised that the drawing room is being  used for the customer, which means the house wasn't originally built as the restaurant. The couple is doing the business by themselves, and I thought I wouldn't do the job help him even if hubby asks me to p;)
I really am grateful for my aunt and cousin for their thoughts and we enjoyed the time and the food chatting for a little long while.

ornament (the armor "kabuto") of the children's day was decorated

We have "Miso dengaku (sweet simmered miso)" which is a rectangular miso-rubbed tofu passed over a flame on a skewer. As they are made of soba instead of tofu, may be it is ok to call it "soba dengaku".  And the one with miso-rubbed and the other pasted sesame-rubbed.

my hubby was observing the way the owner makes soba really earnestly;
and was asked if he does "sobauchi, 蕎麦打ち"

PS> My father will be at the hospital for a while. Even though he looks weak not being able to eat, doctor said his symptom is getting better. Thank you SO much for the warmest wishes for him!  I shouldn't have said not being able to post... hehe,

  1. First, I am so glad your father is improving. That is always such good news after a scare like he had.

    Then, your meal looks so wonderful! It is so healthy and I know it must be delicious. I wish it were possible for us to dine together in one of your Japanese restaurants one day.

    Take care of yourself, my dear friend Miyako, and I continue to keep your dad in my prayers!

  9. so glad your Dad is getting stronger every day. sometimes it takes time to build up your strength again as you get older. Those meals look delicious - I love the way the different bowls are served on a polished wooden board. Do you pour the hot soup over the noodles before eating? Fresh noodles like that would be very yummy I think.

  12. Dearest Miyako,

    That was very thoughtful of your aunt for taking you both out to this soba restaurant. I don't blame you if your husband would ask you to start a restaurant from your home. That is HARD work and lots of hours.
    So glad to read your Dad is improving, however slowly but that is also due to the age. We all heal slower as we age, it takes more time.
    Did you ever receive my email about the Dutch-Japanese? You do have several Dutch words in your language. You never reacted and I wonder if you received it or might have overlooked it.
    Love to you,

    Mariette
