Sculptures in my city and "UBE biennial Exhibition"

Welcome to my city where we take pride in its green and Sculptures☆

I'd like to introduce you one of my city's outstanding features today.
(I used several inks, and the letters written in this color have links)

My city "Ube-city in Yamaguchi-pref. in Japan" has UBE biennial Exhibition; which has been held every two years since 1961 in "Tokiwa park"  for the first time in Japan. This year marks the 50th Anniversary of Open-air Sculpture Exhibition. And more than 350 works were applied from 39 countries this year.  20 winning entries were chosen  and displayed in the park; thanks to the progress of the internet. Don't you think it is exciting to see the works, I hope so.

My best friend (Ms. Murakami) has been working as one of the volunteer guides (22 more members) for about 18 years; not only this biennial Exhibition but also historical places like temples and shrines in our city. And today she was my private guide for you to enjoy, haha.

The sculptor of this work has loved baseball since he was a little boy.
And especially he is a Ichro fan in Major leagues.

My friend happened to see former head of the city-companion who was helping people enjoying the work.

My friend is sitting on the work titiled "FuWa FuWa 5!"

Ube-city's home-page introduces the works here, (please scroll down the page)
Ube city has more than 200 hundred sculptures displayed here and there in the city, you can also enjoy these works in  this page.
My favorite is the one titled "Rondo" located in front of ANA Hotel Ube. They have the honor of putting santa costumes during Christmas season.
Please have fun with pages and click many times to enter or enlarge the pictures, whenever you have time(these two pictures are from pc-site)

  4. Dearest Orchid,

Funny the title I Am Home... I thought it is an easter Egg with a bunny inside. The steel space art is also great.
You can read about my Grandpa today... a little personal story.
Enjoyed this post and you are a great promoter of your city!

    Love to you,

    Mariette

  17. I am not a baseball fan (it's not played much in SA), but that first one was my favourite sculpture. Thank you for a most interesting and informative post (with all the links) and for taking us on this tour with you and your friend. That was a lovely picture of her. I have been a bit tardy with keeping up with blog visits of late, Orchid. I've found it necessary to limit the time I spend blogging, as I find unless I do, I don't get everything accomplished that I need to in my day to day life. It has been super popping by to catch up on the posts I've missed.

I loved seeing the garden of the hotel your husband's cousins stayed in for the 49th day memorial burial service. The gift of the matsutake mushroom was obviously greatly appreciated and you took care and pleasure preparing it to eat. I'd never heard of this mushroom before, but I do know you get far more exotic ones than we do. I love ALL mushrooms.

I hope you and your husband have a lovely, relaxing weekend. His soba noodles sound so delicious. Maybe you could share a recipe with us sometime?
